MARTÍN SAMPEDRO. Santander, 12 October 1966.
Martin Sampedro, self-taught, began his photography hobby in his eight years. At that time was the extensive collection of photographs with which he obtained his first local awards and exhibitions. In his first years living in Madrid, he was director of the Taller Escuela de Fotografía “El Matadero” for the Fundación Colegio del Rey, a first step towards the creation of the Centro Nacional de Fotografía which never culminated in its political origins. Selected for the Young Art Museum in 1992, over the years he shares his authorship with professional work. Among the most notable works are world-wide publicity campaigns, with international awards such as the European tourism campaign in 1993, the Andalucía 2001 international tourism campaign, the Sida prevention campaigns for COGAM or those carried out by the Telefónica brands, Kodak, Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, Jaguar, Loewe, becoming one of the most prestigious photographers in advertising photography.
On his artistic proposal he is full of experimental work. Precursor of “Copy Art” in the years he saw in Spain, his photographs of him taken with photocopiers led to images of words and other series in which the photography was needed to express his personal poetic world.
With the change of symbol toman highlights his audiovisual works, he introduces in his photographs of him the human figure created virtually with digital techniques, inaugurating what he later called “New Photography”. His most recent works “Interior Ulterior”, “La extrañeza de existir”, “Sangre Azul”, “Latente” or “Ray Gropius”, are a demonstration of his effort to connect the different dimensions of existence, equip them with visual identity new forms of life, and to build our own imagination in the international vanguard of what we call post-photography today.
He has taught classes and degrees in different schools and universities such as the Máster de Efti, the Centro Fotográfico Manuel Álvarez Bravo de Oaxaca, or the Facultad de Bellas Artes de Cuenca, UCLM. Currently he actively participates in photographic culture with presentations, texts in books, conferences, seminars, and publications
